Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, ÍâÍøÌìÌà is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of UA alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at ÍâÍøÌìÌÃ, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Women's Auxiliary Board of Summit County Children Services Endowed Scholarship

Originally established on April 11, 1973 - marking the 25th anniversary of the Women's Auxiliary Board (WAB) - The Women's Auxiliary Board of Summit County Children Services Endowed Scholarship (formerly The Endowed Scholarship Fund of the Women's Auxiliary Board of the Summit County Children's Home Inc.) was created to encourage "Our Children" to attend ÍâÍøÌìÌà (UA) and pursue careers that would improve their lives and contribute to the greater good. In 2025, the scholarship was revised to not only support students who, at any point in their lives, received services from Summit County Children Services (SCCS), but also to provide additional financial assistance for wrap-around needs that help them remain enrolled and succeed in their studies.

The Women's Auxiliary Board of Summit County Children Services (formerly the Women's Auxiliary Board of the Summit County Children's Home, Inc.) holds the distinction of being the first group of its kind to support a public child welfare agency in the United States. Founded in 1948 by a dedicated coalition that included then-superintendent Hilda Marvel and civic leaders Betty Jaycox and Eleanor Voke, the board quickly grew to more than 100 women united in their mission to advocate for and support the well-being of children in the agency's care. Today, that commitment continues through the efforts of more than 80 active members. The WAB works tirelessly to enhance the quality of life for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, or dependency and who are served by SCCS.

The board's guiding principle - "These Children Are Our Children" - reflects their deep sense of responsibility and compassion. Membership remains open to all women who share this mission and are committed to making a difference in the lives of children throughout Summit County. Summit County Children Services has served the community for more than a century, with a longstanding mission to protect children and strengthen families. The agency offers a comprehensive range of programs focused on ensuring child safety, family stability, and long-term well-being. Services include initial assessment and protection efforts, foster and kinship care, adoption services, and specialized initiatives tailored to meet complex needs. These include multidisciplinary approaches to addressing trauma and abuse, intensive in-home support to help families stay together safely, and programs that assist families dealing with addiction and intergenerational trauma. The Women's Auxiliary Board of Summit County Children Services Endowed Scholarship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students at ÍâÍøÌìÌà who have had any involvement with SCCS during their lives.

Eligible recipients may be:

  • Enrolled either full-time or part-time
  • Pursuing any academic major offered by UA

Scholarship funds will first be applied to the student's account to cover, in this order: tuition, fees, textbooks, on-campus housing, and meal plans. If any scholarship funds remain, they will be disbursed directly to the recipient to assist with other critical needs that support student success, such as rent, food, transportation, and other living expenses. Funds used for purposes other than qualified educational expenses are reportable and may be taxable to the recipient.

The Women's Auxiliary Board of Summit County Children Services Endowed Scholarship may be renewed, with the total renewal of the award to any individual recipient not to exceed four academic years. The number of recipients and the scholarship amounts will be determined by the University Scholarship Committee and/or upon recommendation by the Women's Auxiliary Board.
